Edible Food Nests
The Food Nest series explores edible containers as an alternative tableware typology, developed in both hand-sized formats for individual portions and larger nest-like vessels intended for shared consumption. The project proposes a new aesthetic and functional language for food presentation, giving rise to novel modes of handling, prehension, and collective meal rituals. By redefining how food is held, passed, and consumed, the series foregrounds the tactile and social dimensions of eating.
Launched at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2011, the containers are composed primarily of tomato and were conceived specifically for the Italian aperitivo. Through controlled processing, tomato is transformed into a spectrum of textures—crunchy, firm, soft, and jelly-like—each producing a distinct sensory and flavor profile.
